Membership/Structure

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all who satisfy the examination requirement of the Council of the Society (degree or its equivalent in mining and/ or mineral processing obtained from institutions accredited as such by relevant accreditation bodies in Nigeria). The Society consists of Fellows and Members, who are known as Corporate Members. The Society also has attached to it Honorary Fellows, Graduate Members, Affiliates, and Students, all of whom are collectively referred to as Non-corporate Members. In addition to the Classes of Membership, there are Institutional Members.

 

ORGANIZATION

The National body is the apex of the Society and run by the Council. The Council comprises elected National Executive Members, Fellows-in-Council, Members-in- Council, and Institutional Members-in-Council. The President of the Society is the Chairman of the Council.

The Society has six Zonal Chapters run by their respective Executive Committees. These Zonal Chapters are:

 

• Abuja- Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Niger States.
• Akure- Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Lagos and Osun States.
• Enugu- Enugu, Anamber, Imo, Cross-River, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Ebonyi and Bayelsa States.
• Jos- Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba States.
• Kaduna- Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
• Okene- Kwara, Kogi, Benue and Edo States.
