Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) held its 52nd Annual International Conference & Exhibitions with the theme “Economic Diversification through Sustainable Mineral Resources Development” at Kwara State Banquet, Ilorin, Kwara State from March 13-18, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prof. Gbenga Okunlola, FNMGS, FGS, FASI. At its colourful Awards Night, which the NSME President, Engr. Dr. E.O.A. Damisa, FNSME and other senior members of our Society were in attendance, the following distinguished NSME members received various awards:

Engr. Umar A. Hassan, FNSME was the 2016 recipient of the NMGS/VERSA-TECH/PO NWASIKE AWARD for his contributions to promoting the career of young mining engineers and geoscientists and also distinguishing himself in the profession.

Engr. Obadiah S. Nkom, FNSME, FNMGS received the 2016 NMGS/MOSUNMOLU/DR. E. A. IFATUROTI AWARD for his consistent and excellent contribution in general area of mining and mineral resources development in Africa.

Engr. Dauda A. Awojobi, FNSME, FNMGS was conferred with the prestigious Fellowship Award of NMGS.

Engr. Dr. Umar S. Bamalli, FNSME was the 2016 recipient of NMGS/PTDF/RILWAN LUKMAN AWARD for his significant contributions to mining and geosciences education and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society. The Fellowship Award of NMGS was also conferred on Engr. Dr. Bamalli.

Engr. Dr. E.O.A. Damisa, FNSME on behalf of the entire membership of our great Society congratulates them for their well deserved awards and wishes them more feathers to their caps.
