ABRIDGED PROFILE OF ALHAJI INUWA GOMBE, FNSME, FNMGS, OON,

                                                (Magaji Rafin Gombe)

Alhaji Inuwa Gombe, Mgaji Rafin Gombe, was born on 3rd September,1939. He had his elementary school education in Gombe 1946 – 1949 and Middle School in Bauchi 1950 – 1951. He attended Barewa College, Zaria in 1952 and then proceeded to England where he attended Taunton School, Taunton, Somerset England from 1952 to 1958 and Camborne School of Mines where he graduated with BS degree in mining engineering. He was Charted Mining Engineer by Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, United Kingdom.

Alhaji Inuwa Gombe had eight weeks industrial training experience with Mines do Lousal, Lousal in Portugal. He also worked with Geevor Tin Mines, Cornwall in England Between January and June, 1962. On returning to Nigeria, he began his mining career with the then Ministry of Mines and Power, Mines Division in August 1962 as a Pupil Inspector of Mines. He served in various capacities and rose through ranks to position of Director of Mines (head of department) in 1978. Based on merit, he was appointed Permanent Secretary in 1983 before his voluntary retirement from service in 1983.

Alhaji Inuwa Gombe served as a board member of many companies at various times. These companies include Nigerian Mining Corporation, Nigerian Coal Corporation, Nigerian Uranium Mining Company, Associated Iron Ores Mining Company, Bauchi State Investment Company. He served as a Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos and National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency, Kaduna at various times.

Alhaji Inuwa Gombe was a pioneer member and a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME) and Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS). He was the first Past President of Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers from 1989- 1996. He was also a Past President of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS). He served as Chairman, Board of Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG). His distinguished accomplishments in government service earned him national recognition with the award of Order of the Niger (OON) by the Federal Government of Nigeria. 

He served as the Captain of Plateau Golf Club from 1975 – 1976 and had opportunity to visit all continents of this world. He took pride in his identification with mining and received many awards for his selfless service and immense contributions to the development of Nigerian Mining Industry.
