The activities of the Society include among others:

Publications

The Society publishes technical journal: “The Nigerian Mining Journal”; a quarterly news bulletin- “The Miner”; Annual Conference and seminar proceedings and other hoc publications.

Conferences/Workshops/ Seminars/Courses

The Society provides services (technical, managerial, or professional) to its members to improve their competence through workshops, seminars, lectures and conferences. The need of these services is more paramount in our profession than in most other professions because of the increasing advances in the fields of engineering and technology.

The Society holds an annual conference based on selected theme that addresses issues of fundamental importance to the Nigerian minerals industry. The conference creates an opportunity for its members to exchange critical information and intelligent ideas that will enable them to keep in pace with the latest development in mining and mineral processing, thereby helping them to increase their productivity and efficiency. The communiqué issued at the end of conference in many occasions has helped the Government in formulating its minerals and metals policies. The Conference is normally rounded off with Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Awards and Prizes

The Society establishes awards and prizes to honour those who distinguish themselves in the profession and outstanding students in mining and mineral processing engineering programmmes. . The Society also establishes honorary fellowship awards to periodically honour those who made outstanding service to the Society or distinguish themselves in scientific or engineering achievement in the fields embracing the activities of the Society.
