Inauguration of Edo Chapter of Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME) took place on the 22nd June, 2022 at the auditorium of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State. The occasion was graced by the President of Nigeria Society of Mining Engineers, Prof. B. S. Jatau, FNSME and the General Secretary of the Society, Engr. A. U. Ojile, FNSME. In attendance was Rector, Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. S. S. Umar, Chairman, Miners Association of Nigeria, Edo State Branch, Engr. Mike Okhumode and Director of Mines Inspectorate Department, FMMSD Abuja was represented by Engr. A. U. Abdulkadir: Provost/Zonal Mines Officer, South-south Nigeria. The key note address of the colourful occasion was delivered by Dr. S. S. Umar. Prof. M. A. Saliu of the Department of Mining Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure, delivered the theme titled: Employment of Professional Mining Engineers: a Pinnacle for a Successful Mining Investment.

Moreover, Edo State Chapter comprising 11 executives and 60 members, making a total of 71, make up the inauguration of the new Chapter in the presence of Auchi Polytechnic Mineral Resources Engineering Students with other guests and well-wishers. The chairman of the Edo State Chapter, Engr. Tafa Abubakar; the secretary, Engr. Fatai Jimoh along with other executives were subsequently inaugurated at the occasion. This marked a new beginning in the affairs of the Edo Chapter of NSME.
