The 20^th Annual General Meeting (AGM)/International Conference tagged Jewel in the Savannah Gombe 2021 of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME) was held at the Gombe International Hotel and Gombe State University, Gombe, Gombe State on 12^th to 15^th November, 2021 having the theme: Repositioning the Nigerian Mining Sector for Accelerated National Development. The hosting right was given to the Jos Zonal Chapter where Gombe State Chapter falls during 19^th AGM/ International Conference at Abeokuta. This is the first time NSME hosted their AGM/International Conference in the Northeastern of Nigeria

The sub – themes of the Conference were as following: 

• Unlocking the potential of Nigerian Mining Sector for Sustainable Job creation
• Value addition to the Nigerian minerals for increased revenue generation
• Impact of mining on the environment
• Challenges and prospects in formalizing the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining
• Social and labour issues in the Nigerian Mining Sector
• Contemporary Security issues in the Nigerian Mining Fields
• Access to financing Nigerian Mining Projects: Challenges and Solution.

Furthermore, the pre – conference discussion took place with lead papers presented by three guest speakers. Prof. S. J. Mallo spoke on Leveraging on the Impact of Junior Mining Companies from Best Practices, Prof. I. N. Abdullahi delivered paper on towards the elimination of child labour in the artisanal small-scale gold mining sector in Nigeria: the international labour organisation accel Africa approach, while Engr. Nwude spoke on environmental impact assessment (EIA) of surface mining project.

Moreover, the opening ceremony attached many dignities from all works. These include the Gombe State Commissioner of Mineral Development and Energy, Barr. Bagudu who represent the State Governor, Engr. M. I. Musa, former minister of state transportation and Director General of Nigeria Mining Cadastre, Engr. O. S. Nkom.

The AGM was well attended by members coming from different part of the country. During the 20^th AGM/International Conference, new members of council were elected into different positions. The newly executive council members are:
